Kallie comes to us with more than 12 years of library and education experience. Having graduated from Widener University in Philadelphia, PA, she moved to Houston in 2005 to begin her teaching career with HISD as a Pre-K teacher. Kallie taught for three years before pursuing a Master’s Degree in Library Science as part of an IMLS grant. She continued her career with HISD as an elementary school librarian. In 2011, she left HISD to further her career in education/librarianship by moving to the Children’s Museum of Houston. Here she served as an educator and librarian, managing museum galleries, staff, the HPL Parent Resource Library and the IMLS-funded Family Literacy Involvement Program (FLIP) in partnership with the Houston Public Library. Over the last two years, Kallie has helped expand the FLIP Program beyond the 35 Library locations where the program currently exists into an additional 40 HISD schools where it is used by volunteers with 1st-grade students. Kallie lives in the Heights with her husband and son, Drew, (age 2) and their dog and cats. She maintains an active role as the founder of her neighborhood’s parenting group (Shady Acres Moms’ Group) and a participant in her neighborhood’s civic club. In her new role, Kallie will have system-wide responsibility for Youth Services, birth to 18.
