The emphasis was on teaching about the environment and how snakes/reptiles provide their part for the balance of nature. The program took a hands-on approach with snakes educated as well as entertained the entire audience!
All the kids got a chance to handle all the animals in a safe and caring manner.! Everyone had a slithering good time.
Loud ohhs and ahhs were heard when Rosie the albino python made her appearance.
The participants also learned many of interesting facts about snakes including.
- Snakes are carnivores (meat eaters).
- Snakes don’t have eyelids.
- Snakes can’t bite food so have to swallow it whole.
- Snakes have flexible jaws which allow them to eat prey bigger than their head!
- Snakes are found on every continent of the world except Antarctica.
- Snakes have internal ears but not external ones.
- Snakes are covered in scales.
- Snakeskin is smooth and dry.
- Snakes shed their skin a number of times a year in a process that usually lasts a few days.
- Snakes smell with their tongue.

Thanks for sharing this! We LOVED the Texas Snakes & More here at Tuttle as well! I got to be a snake helper and hold a cuddly snake and let all the kids pet it. My favorite part of the program was encouraging a little boy that was too scared to come into the room at first. By the end of the show he was WEARING the snakes and completely over his fear.
