Fancy Nancy Tea Party @ ALI

Bonjour, everybody!

The Henington-Alief library had a very fancy program last week, when we hosted our first Fancy Nancy Tea Party. Our main creative minds for the event were Iffat Aslam, Michelle Wang, and Nagma Akbar who developed the idea, created the invitations, set the scene with fabulous decorations and table settings, selected the food, and gave a tea demonstration.

Each child was given an invitation to show at the entrance when they came into our children’s area to be walked down the red carpet by our host Valentin Jaimes (for the young ladies), or our hostess for the evening Marcia Cameron-Denton (for the young men). The only restrictions we placed upon our guests was that they RSVP prior to the event, and that they be between the ages of 5 – 9, beyond that, the event was open to everyone who expressed an interest in donning their finery and joining us for a celebration.

The children’s area was transformed into a tres elegant (I learned that from Nancy) tea house with decorations mostly developed and coordinated by Michelle, a photo/selfie station thanks to Nagma, and a dining experience like never before (small desserts and a variety of juices). Crystal, Kendra, and Marcia assisted the main team with the setup of decorations and table settings, and with the support of our amazing Alief staff, it was an event to remember for all 24 children who showed up (they have already begun asking when the next one is).

As Fancy Nancy says:
What I love most about tea parties is that you can have one anytime!
You don’t need to wait for your birthday or Christmas or some other formal occasion.
Whenever you feel like celebrating, that’s the perfect time for a tea party.

I am quite happy to say that this event is now on the pre-approved programs list, and I can’t wait to see what Alief does next spring (or what other locations might do in the meantime!). Just remember three important things: Be fancy! Have fun! Invite everyone! (I may have modified that from the Fancy Nancy Tea Parties book, but it works).
